Studying at Luther King House Theological College Print
cherryblossomroofline225

Luther King House is an interdenominational Christian Theological College based in the heart of Manchester, with a diverse student population.  We provide diverse opportunities for Christian learning for lay and ministerial students. We offer a range of courses and study programmes, combining theological education and Christian ministry training and providing great opportunities to deepen religious and biblical knowledge.

Whilst Luther King House is a theology college rather than a Bible college, we do offer a wide-ranging Christian education programme which includes in-depth study of the Bible.

Our range of theology courses include Foundation Degrees, BAs, MAs and Research Degrees.  All our taught courses are designed to support you in your lay or ordained ministry as you deepen your understanding of faith, worship, ministry and mission through reflection upon your own real life ministry and practice in church and the wider community.

We offer undergraduate and postgraduate contextual theology courses in biblical studies, missional theology, evangelism and interfaith studies, pastoral and practical theology, systematic theology, church history and church related community work. Students on our undergraduate Foundation degree and BA gain experience in multiple aspects of church leadership, including Bible study, preaching, teaching, leading worship, pastoral care and mission and evangelism.  We also offer opportunities to explore contemporary radical and postmodern theologies including liberation theologies.

Our undergraduate degrees are validated by the Universities of Chester and Liverpool Hope, and our postgraduate degrees are validated by the University of Manchester.

Many of our courses can also be taken as individual standalone courses for personal interest at a significantly reduced cost, and this can be a great way of testing the ground as to whether you wish to commit to a longer period of more in-depth academic study.

The Luther King House Educational Trust is made up of five colleges:

  • Northern Baptist College
  • Northern College  (supporting United Reformed and Congregational Churches)
  • Hartley Victoria College
  • Unitarian College Manchester
  • Luther King House Open College

The colleges share facilities and staff on the Luther King House site in Brighton Grove, Manchester.

Independent lay students wishing to study for personal interest or ordained ministers seeking opportunities for continuing professional development apply to study with us through our Open College.  For an overview of all the courses available through our Open College, please click here.

Those wishing to study here with a view to ordained ministry normally need to apply through their own denomination's selection process.  (If this applies to you, please see your denomination's information on our website and check with your own denomination as to what would be most right for you.)

If our website does not answer your questions about Luther King House, please contact us.

New MA Strand Print

Luther King House are pleased to announce that we now have a new MA strand for those who are currently, or are interested in becoming, theological educators, and for those who wish to develop an understanding of the principles of theological education and acquire skills in enabling others to learn and reflect.  These new modules, taught by Dr. David Goodbourn and Revd Dr. Christine Jones, will include exploration into the ways in which people learn and different styles and methods of teaching from a theological perspective. The courses on "Learners and Learning in Christian Adult Education" and "Teachers and Teaching in Christian Adult Education" will run on Mondays, and can be taken as part of the MA programme or as standalone modules for personal interest.

For those not wishing to complete an MA but still wishing to obtain accreditation for these modules, it is also possible to take these modules towards a PG Cert or PG Dip award.  Please ask for more details.  Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
