We offer a range of part-time and full-time routes to achieve our theology Foundation Degree which is validated by Chester and Liverpool Hope universities. The degree is a practical Christian theology degree course which explores theology in relation to lay and ordained ministry and mission, and it is centred around the work (voluntary or paid) which students undertake in their church or placement setting. For example, when taking the academic course on Introduction to the Bible students are required to organise and lead a short Bible study group with members of the congregation or those attending a special interest group (eg. Fellowship Group or Youth Group). Our students have the opportunity to learn about, and gain experience in, all aspects of lay and ordained church leadership, including Bible study, preaching, teaching, Christian education, leading worship, pastoral care, mission, evangelism and interfaith engagement. It's also a great opportunity to explore your own Christian vocation as you reflect upon your own faith and ministry.
To apply for any of our theological Foundation degrees, please complete and return to us the application form in the Attachments section at the base of this page.
Midweek pathway (full-time or part-time study)
The Foundation Degree in Mission and Ministry is offered both full-time and part-time as a midweek taught programme where students study on a standard academic term on weekdays from September to June. Most face to face teaching takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and in a series of compact blocks. Seminars, learning support, meetings with academic staff and assignment writing activities take place by arrangement in addition to scheduled face to face lectures. Students on this pathway who choose to study full-time complete their Foundation Degree in 2 years, whilst others choose to study part-time over 4 years.
As with all pathways through our Foundation Degree, you do also need to be engaged in some form of lay or ordained ministry or mission, for example, active engagement in your local congregation or involvement in a church-related project in the community. This helps you to relate your theological learning to your Christian ministry in practical ways, and makes your theological and biblical studies more real and meaningful as you reflect upon your placement experiences.
For those travelling to the course from a distance, overnight accommodation can be booked directly through Reception, should it be needed.
The fees for 2011-12 will be £3,300 full-time, or £1,650 part-time, excluding any accommodation costs.
To apply, please complete and return the application form, attached at the base of this page.
